This week I am elated to discuss this subject that gives entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs sleepless nights. Why do people fear risk? One probable explanation is uncertainty. Entrepreneurs are masters of change, learning how to utilize uncertainty is what separates entrepreneurs and business people. Uncertainty is your friend. Navigating uncertain waters is the road to opportunity.
I met Mr. Haro, an employed taxi driver with an agreement to remit 1500 shillings per day to the vehicle owner. Mr. Haro was to also take care of vehicle maintenance. The only challenge was that the vehicle owner would pick the vehicle for several days leaving Mr. Haro with no earning means. After a year with this arrangement, Mr. Haro approached a vehicle dealer with Ksh.500,000 cash for a car worth Ksh.800,000 and a request to spread the Ksh.300,000 balance over one and a half years.
Lessons from the Taxi Driver
- Use your experience and skills to navigate uncertainty
- Always start with the known to explore the unknown
- There are people ready to support your dream when you become serious about pursuing your dream.
- Action with faith is what creates success and the only way to deal with uncertainty.
RISK hide the opportunity and fear brought by uncertainty blocks many from achieving their potential.
