Most networking efforts are disorganized and random at best. The results from such efforts are most likely not the best. Networking works best when it’s done in a deliberate, focused and organized manner.

Meet people from diverse professions and backgrounds 

Seek to meet, network and develop relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and professions.

Many people make the mistake of networking only with their ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ in the same professions! They already know you!

Step out and meet and mix with different people – that’s where opportunity lies.

Invest time and energy

Make it part and parcel of your overall strategy for personal and business success. So you must invest time, energy and resources.

A focused approach Career woman

Networking works best if it is focused and done on a regular basis – this helps develop trust and credibility. It’s better to stick with one group instead of jumping from one to the other.  Weekly or fortnightly scheduled meeting are the best.

Be first to assist

You readily help and assist others first, you go the extra mile to share contacts, leads and referrals. Practice being a ‘giver first’   instead of being on a ‘hunting ‘mission with everyone you meet.

Keep in touch

Lack of follow up and follow through is the biggest mistake you can ever make when networking. So you must have a keep in touch and follow up method or system. I recommend making a follow up call or email within 24 – 48 hours. The best keep in touch tool is a newsletter.

5 STRATEGIES TO TURN YOUR IDEA INTO A PROFITABLE VENTURE

1. TARGET A MOTIVATED MARKET Comfort zone

Your gifts, talents, ideas and solutions must be harnessed, polished and positioned to help a particular group of people with a major challenge or problem – one that they are willing, able and happy to pay to have resolved.

Most business ideas ‘crash’ on takeoff because of not targeting a motivated niche. No matter how good your idea, if that’s not what ‘they’ want, you will struggle to get clients.

From my experience – if ‘they’ don’t want it, free is not cheap enough.

Target a problem they are willing to pay to have it solved.

2. VENTURE OUT OF YOUR USUAL COMFORT ZONES

The business success and financial breakthrough you are seeking is only available in another location – a location that may be unfamiliar at first.

You must step out of the usual and the familiar.

This means a ‘business unusual’ approach.

Do things differently.

Do different things.

You must stretch to reach a fruit that is just above your reach.

3. TAP INTO THE HIDDEN WEALTH IN YOUR IDEA

Every idea has the potential to generate at least 3 income streams.

To make your idea profitable work to unearth the hidden wealth just lying in wait. The secret here is to look for additional + unique ways to be of service to your clients.

One possible income stream lying in wait is: teach/train/coach/mentor others to do what you do. You only need to be one step ahead.
